Collaboration with C.R.E.T.H – August 2023

This summer, AQEIPS collaborated with the C.R.E.T.H (the center for resources and evaluation of technology for people with disabilities), an organization situated in Belgium that specializes in technology and offering consulting services for people with disabilities. Their goal is to help find the “technological assistance best adapted for the needs and reality of the person”.

One of their projects is called My Screen Reader and Me. The purpose of the project is to create short videos that explain the different functions of three screen readers: NVDA, Voiceover from Mac and Narrator from Windows. Each video, which lasts about a minute, demonstrates and explains how to use one aspect of each of these screen readers in a clear simple way. The videos are meant to help anyone with a visual impairment and anyone who is interested to learn how to use this technology; teachers, parents, specialists in the field and the general public.

Vincent Leon et Pierre Muraille came to Québec in August and spent a day at the AQEIPS office filming two videos with two of our partners and members who generously volunteered their time for the project.

The day went really well, first filming a video explaining how the screen reader Voiceover generally works. After, the team worked on a video that gives instructions on how to activate and disactivate the screen reader NVDA. After filming we ate and talked about everything and anything, about Montréal, services offered to students with disabilities and different expressions used in Québec French versus Belgium French.

The day ended with a discussion on the importance of technological assistance for people with disabilities.
