January-March: quarterly report

Ensuite podcast

Our project managers took part in the Ensuite podcast, a series that highlights impactful collaborations between the academic sector and community organizations. Their contribution is part of a collaborative project carried out with AQEIPS and the Université du Québec à Montréal’s Service aux collectivités (SAC-UQAM), focusing on digital accessibility in post-secondary institutions, available here

Through this experience, the podcast illustrates how encounters between student-researchers and community organizations can lead to genuine co-construction of knowledge and meaningful, concrete outcomes that go beyond the academic setting and sustainably strengthen ties between students and communities.

SME Days

AQEIPS took part in a tabling session during ISMÉ’s student mental healthdays to engage with partners and members of the higher education community working in student mental health. The goal was to raise awareness about the barriers faced by students with disabilities, particularly those affecting their academic journey and mental well-being.

Through the presentation of our new board game initiative, AQEIPS offered a playful and educational approach to illustrating systemic barriers (administrative delays, lack of accommodations, additional costs, discrimination, etc.) that can impact student success.

This activity helped illustrate and communicate these issues, encouraged exchanges with participants, and sparked collective reflection on ways to improve accessibility and inclusion in post-secondary education.

Pictured: a prototype of the board game presented at our booth on March 24, showing explanatory cards as well as a few bonus cards (service dog, hearing aid) and a section of the game board featuring an event space (exam) and a question space. The text on the cards appears in black on a white background. Each type of disability is represented by a colored symbol. In the image, the cards corresponding to emerging disabilities are easily identifiable by a green diamond.

Cégep du Vieux Montréal

The AQEIPS team was once again in attendance for Universal Accessibility Week at Cégep du Vieux in Montreal. The event gives associations and organizations a chance to meet, discuss our activities, and catch up with one another. Students are encouraged to visit the booths to learn about the services and activities offered by the participating associations. It’s a very

enjoyable annual event that’s appreciated by all!

Clic Déphy

During the Déphy Montréal networking day, as part of the Clic DéPhy event, AQEIPS set up a booth to meet with stakeholders from Montréal’s community sector and public networks, including health, education, and municipal services.

This participation aimed to promote the principles of equity and inclusion, as well as to present the Association’s services, including its annual bursary program for students with disabilities. The team also took the opportunity to raise awareness among visitors about issues related to accessibility and the participation of students with disabilities in post-secondary and community settings.

Tribute to Stéphane Braney

Always brimming with inspiring projects and initiatives, our dear friend and colleague Stéphane Braney left us far too soon on January 3, 2026.

Stéphane was a force of gentleness, a visionary determined to bring about change and refuse to be intimidated by the systemic ableism of our institutions. Faced with pervasive barriers to accessing public spaces and appropriate care, Stéphane led our team with good humor and unwavering kindness.

We thank him for his unwavering commitment to the rights of people with disabilities, and for all the joys—big and small—that he has shared with us.
