Led by Maude Chartier-Desjardins in collaboration with AQEIPS and supervised by Felicity Spence, this project benefits from the financial support of the program <a href=\"https:\/\/sac.uqam.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Service aux collectivit\u00e9s<\/a> of UQAM.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This project comprises of two main parts: an evaluation of digital practices on websites of Quebec postsecondary establishments concerning accommodation and support services for students with disabilities (part 1) and an evaluation of services actually offered in these same postsecondary institutions (part 2). The goal of AQEIPS is to create a list of recommendations to improve and standardize accessibility and inclusivity practices in Qu\u00e9bec academic institutions.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The preliminary results of the project (part 1) reveal significant gaps in digital accessibility and access to online information, an essential element for students with disabilities. aimed at evaluating the design of websites in terms of access to information and how it is presented, such as the ease of navigation, the writing on the web page or the accessible format of campus maps. &nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>The specificities of disabilities<\/strong>; aimed at facilitating accessibility to digital information for people with hearing and visual impairments, through a plurality of methods for presenting this information (such as subtitles for videos and ASL interpretation). &nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Access to information on services offered<\/strong>; aimed at ensuring that relevant information in terms of services available is present on designated web pages (such as examples of accommodations offered or even internal policies of educational establishments).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>As a part of the initial research, this research looked at 88 websites of postsecondary establishements in Qu\u00e9bec, including all universities as well as a sampling of nearly 60% of cegeps and other professional training institutions. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:100px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Results and Recommendations<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\r\n<div class=\"accordions-block\">\r\n                    <div class=\"accordion\" data-aos=\"fade-up\">\r\n            <h2 class=\"accordion-title h2\">\r\n                <a class=\"accordion-link\" role=\"button\" href=\"#panel-1-that-postsecondary-establishments-pluralize-their-methods-of-sharing-information-on-their-website-by-using-more-multimedia-content-while-ensuring-optimal-accessibility-of-this-content-1\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"panel-1-that-postsecondary-establishments-pluralize-their-methods-of-sharing-information-on-their-website-by-using-more-multimedia-content-while-ensuring-optimal-accessibility-of-this-content-1\">1. That postsecondary establishments pluralize their methods of sharing information on their website by using more multimedia content while ensuring optimal accessibility of this content;  <\/a>\r\n            <\/h2>\r\n\r\n            <div class=\"accordion-panel\" id=\"panel-1-that-postsecondary-establishments-pluralize-their-methods-of-sharing-information-on-their-website-by-using-more-multimedia-content-while-ensuring-optimal-accessibility-of-this-content-1\" style=\"display: none;\">\r\n\t\t\t\t<p><span class=\"TextRun SCXW34657524 BCX0\" lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" data-contrast=\"none\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW34657524 BCX0\">Information about services in postsecondary institutions is often presented in limited textual form and is not always easily accessible to students with disabilities. <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW34657524 BCX0\">Nearly 85.16%<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW34657524 BCX0\"> of the establishments evaluated do not seem to use diversified information practices, which <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW34657524 BCX0\">would<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW34657524 BCX0\"> potentially <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW34657524 BCX0\">facilitate<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW34657524 BCX0\"> the transmission of information.<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW34657524 BCX0\"> In addition, students are often faced with the need to navigate through various web mazes to access pages <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW34657524 BCX0\">regarding<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW34657524 BCX0\"> service and support centers. That postsecondary institutions inform and clearly exemplify on their website the disability situations likely to require accommodations within the academic environment, as well as examples of these accommodations, by referring, without limitation, to the list from the government of Quebec; <\/a>\r\n            <\/h2>\r\n\r\n            <div class=\"accordion-panel\" id=\"panel-3-that-postsecondary-institutions-inform-and-clearly-exemplify-on-their-website-the-disability-situations-likely-to-require-accommodations-within-the-academic-environment-as-well-as-examples-of-thes-3\" style=\"display: none;\">\r\n\t\t\t\t<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">54.5% of postsecondary institutions are judged unsatisfactory in terms of illustrating disability situations eligible for services on their website.
