Become a spokesperson!<\/strong> \u00a0<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The AQEIPS spokesperson project is an initiative to bring together students with disabilities (SWD)<\/strong> from across Quebec to build a stronger community. The goal is that by helping each other, building connections and learning more about the difficulties faced by SWD, we will be in a better position to address accessibility issues in Quebec’s post-secondary institutions.  <\/strong>  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why this project?<\/strong> \u00a0<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Although issues of accessibility and inclusion are better known today, there is still work to be done when it comes to improving accessibility and inclusion in our post-secondary institutions. For some time now, AQEIPS has noticed that certain problems continue to be an issue for students with disabilities. We’ve also noticed that there is a disparity in terms of services offered and architectural accessibility between different places of study.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The aim of the spokesperson project is to work for change. By creating a community that connects students with disabilities across Quebec, we will be in a better position to take action for change, for a more accessible world.  <\/strong> <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Examples of accessibility and inclusion issues: <\/strong>\u00a0<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

  • Difficulties finding a notetaker   <\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Problems accessing adapted bathrooms  <\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Architecturally inaccessible cafeterias <\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Broken-down elevators <\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Non recognition of a disability and refusal of accommodations <\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Needing to do additional work in order to have accommodations during a stage <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    The roles of a spokesperson:<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    Participate in meetings<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

    • AQEIPS spokespeople will meet 1 to 2 times per semester. These will be times to share experiences, discuss and exchange ideas, learn and work to become an agent for change.  <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

      Share information<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
        \n
      • We will ask the spokespeople to help us by sharing information about our cause.  <\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • Spokespeople will be encouraged to share relevant information from their post-secondary institution, as well as activities or events going on in their area that highlight our cause.  <\/strong>  <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

        • If interested, spokespeople may share photos, videos or short texts of events, initiatives or stories, shedding light on experiences of people in the community. This content can be shared on our website and\/or circulated on our social media.  <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
