Stéphane Braney (1966-2026)
A leader in advocating for the rights of people with disabilities.
A valued colleague and friend
In 2022, Stéphane joined AQEIPS as a project manager and was soon promoted to executive director. Over the next three years, he set out to revitalize the Association, which, like many others, had suffered from the onset of the pandemic in 2020. During this time, Stéphane was also pursuing a graduate degree in Information Technology et Governance at Téluq university .
Always brimming with inspiring projects and initiatives, he left us far too soon on January 3, 2026.
Stéphane was a force of gentleness, a visionary determined to bring about change and refuse to be intimidated by the systemic ableism of our institutions. Faced with pervasive barriers to accessing public spaces and appropriate care, Stéphane led our team with good humor and unwavering kindness.
We thank him for his unwavering commitment to the rights of people with disabilities, and for all the joys—big and small—that he has shared with us.
A ceremony will be held in May to celebrate Stéphane’s life. More information to come.
